World Snooker Championship
With qualifying nearly over, the World Snooker Championship is nearly upon us! Who’s excited??? Well I am incredibly eager to see some snooker! The Crucible is set to give us yet another thriller of a tournament and I wonder if there will be any surprises?
Last year served us a surprise when Mark Selby managed to overturn Ronnie O’Sullivan’s commanding lead and earn himself a first World Snooker crown.
O’Sullivan is undoubtedly the most talented player our game has ever seen, but as we know his mental strength can, and has waned at times. Such a frustrating figure for some, but when he plays like he can, there has been no better sight in snooker.
Selby himself has struggled for form since last years victory, and has admitted it took him time to adjust to the fact that he’d actually won the title. I think he will be there or there abouts this year, he is a consistent performer at these championships.
It was sad to see Steve Davis and Jimmy White fail at the qualifying stage. Davis, a former six time champion was heavily beaten, and White, who some say is the best player never to win a world title, let slip a big lead to lose in the final session.
My outside contenders for the title are; Judd Trump, a player who is capable of beating anyone on his day, Ding Junhui, a player who has failed to live up to his billing in previous years, is this year his year? And Neil Robertson, the confident former champion who is a tough tournament competitor and extremely difficult to beat.
I can’t wait to see that famous Crucible green felt, bring on the snooker!!!
